Gallerie Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
Gallerie helps you find and remember artwork in your photo library. This policy explains what information the app uses, what may leave your device, and how that information is handled.
Information Gallerie Uses
Gallerie may use the following information to provide the app experience:
- Photos and videos you allow the app to access through Apple's Photos permission.
- Photo metadata available through the Photos framework, such as creation date and location, when present.
- Artwork information generated by the app, such as title, artist, date, description, representative image, and identification confidence.
- App interaction and diagnostic information, such as scan status, identification results, errors, and feedback you choose to submit.
- A device-scoped identifier used to support usage limits, backend reliability, abuse prevention, analytics, and app functionality.
Photo Library Access
Gallerie only accesses your photo library after you grant permission through iOS. The app uses on-device analysis to look for photos that appear likely to contain artwork. You can choose full photo library access or limited access using Apple's system controls.
If you remove or limit photo access, Gallerie's ability to scan, identify, and display artwork from your library may be reduced.
Artwork Identification
When Gallerie finds a photo that appears likely to contain artwork, the app may upload a compressed copy of that photo to Gallerie's backend so it can identify the artwork and return related metadata.
Uploaded photos are processed through private backend services. The backend may use third-party services, including Supabase, Google Lens-style search, Google Gemini, and SerpAPI-powered search, to help identify artwork, verify representative images, and generate or refine artwork descriptions.
Uploaded artwork photos are stored temporarily in private backend storage for processing. Temporary objects are shared only through short-lived signed URLs needed for identification and are deleted after processing completes.
Location Information
If a photo contains location metadata and you use location-based sorting or browsing, Gallerie may use Apple's MapKit reverse-geocoding service to convert photo coordinates into human-readable place names. Gallerie uses this to organize your collection by place.
Gallerie does not sell your location information.
Telemetry and Feedback
Gallerie may collect limited telemetry and feedback to understand whether scans, artwork identification, corrections, and backend services are working properly. This may include app events, scan counts, error states, identification outcomes, and feedback you choose to submit.
Telemetry is used for app functionality, reliability, analytics, debugging, abuse prevention, and service improvement. Gallerie does not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
Data Stored on Your Device
Gallerie stores your collection, scan state, cached representative images, correction history, and widget display data locally on your device. Some local copies may be shared with the Gallerie widget through the app's private App Group container so the widget can display your collection.
Data Sharing
Gallerie shares information with service providers only as needed to operate the app, including backend hosting, artwork identification, search, AI processing, analytics, diagnostics, and feedback handling.
Gallerie does not sell your personal information and does not use your information for third-party advertising tracking.
Data Retention
Temporary uploaded artwork photos are deleted after backend processing completes. Local app data remains on your device unless you remove it, rescan/reset your collection, delete the app, or use iOS controls that remove app data.
Telemetry, feedback, and backend logs may be retained for a limited period to operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
Your Choices
- You can change Photos access at any time in iOS Settings.
- You can use limited photo library access if you do not want to grant access to your full library.
- You can remove artworks from your collection in the app.
- You can delete the app to remove locally stored app data from your device.
Children's Privacy
Gallerie is not intended for children under 13. Gallerie does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy as Gallerie changes. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and make the current policy available at this page.
